CNN —Gwen Stefani has some studying to do ahead of the hotly anticipated No Doubt reunion at the Coachella music festival in April. She told host Jimmy Kimmel this week that she and the band haven’t started rehearsing yet, and that she has to relearn “eight or nine” No Doubt songs ahead of the big show. But Stefani isn’t letting nerves get the best of her, as she also gushed to Kimmel that playing Coachella is “going to be amazing. I’m so excited.”In their heyday, No Doubt became known for their classic hits “Don’t Speak,” “Just a Girl” and “Spiderwebs,” among many others. The live music festival will return to Indio’s Empire Polo Field for two consecutive weekends on April 12-14 and April 19-21.

Those losses have come despite the sophistication of Israeli tanks and Israel's experience using them. CNN —Jeremy Renner has made leaps and bounds in his recovery after a near-fatal snowplow accident in January – and this week, those leaps and bounds could be seen, literally. On Tuesday, the “Avengers” star marked “10 months of recovery” by sharing a video on his Instagram page that showcased himself hopping down a hill, and then running back up. It’s an impressive feat considering Renner previously revealed on his social media that he had broken over 30 bones as a result of the accident, including a shattered tibia and a broken knee. His injuries included eight ribs broken in 14 places, a broken eye socket, a collapsed lung and a pierced liver, and he’s been documenting his months of intensive rehabilitation on his social media ever since. “I keep pushing for many reasons,” he wrote on Thursday.

NEW YORK (AP) — The physical pain of nearly dying when shrapnel from a roadside bomb in Iraq tore through his head 17 years ago was hard enough for ABC newsman Bob Woodruff. A couple of inches either way, Woodruff was told, and he would have been killed instantly. He has constant contact with veterans through the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which raises money for military families. That allowed for some gallows humor when Woodruff and Magnus Macedo, the sound technician on Woodruff’s 2006 trip, tried to cross it. Woodruff reunited with Saad Al-Dulaimi and Ghassan Al-Mohammadawi, Iraqi military men who had accompanied him in 2006.

A Dunkin' customer says hot coffee fell on her lap at a drive-thru, causing "severe" burns. The lawsuit says a Dunkin' worker hadn't put the lid on properly. When an employee handed the cup of coffee to the woman, its lid wasn't secured and came off shortly after, spilling the hot coffee on her legs and body, her lawyers said. Morgan & Morgan attorney Benjamin Welch said in a statement that the woman "had to re-learn how to walk due to the severity of her burns." Dunkin' – formerly known as Dunkin' Donuts – wasn't named as a defendant in the lawsuit, CNN reported.

Media analysts widely expect the league to select at least three distributors for its next media rights deal after the current setup expires in 2025. Representative Steve Scalise, Republican of Louisiana and the majority leader, said Tuesday he had been diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, but planned to return to Washington to continue working as he undergoes treatment over the next several months. Mr. Scalise, 57, said in a statement that he had begun treatment for multiple myeloma, which he described as “a very treatable blood cancer,” after feeling ill over the August congressional recess and having tests that led to his diagnosis. “I am incredibly grateful we were able to detect this early and that this cancer is treatable,” Mr. Scalise said in a statement. “I will tackle this with the same strength and energy as I have tackled past challenges.”Mr. Scalise was gravely wounded in 2017 when a gunman opened fire on members of the Republican congressional baseball team at a practice field in Alexandria, Va. Mr. Scalise was shot in the hip and underwent many surgeries to relearn how to walk.

Explore the universe with news on fascinating discoveries, scientific advancements and more.CNN —Researchers using a cutting-edge technique have discovered hidden details in two ancient Egyptian paintings in the Theban Necropolis, near the River Nile, that date back more than 3,000 years. Using portable chemical imaging technology, the researchers identified alterations made by the artists that are rare in Egyptian paintings, commonly thought to be the product of highly formalized workflows. We want to understand how these paintings were made.”X-ray fluorescence in chemical imaging technology helps to reveal alterations made in Egyptian tomb paintings that may not seem obvious to the naked eye. “It demonstrates the potential value of quantitative data, obtained through scientific analysis, for a more comprehensive and less subjective interpretation of ancient Egyptian art,” she said. “And the adaption of portable (X-ray) instruments as mobile devices designed for use in the field is a very exciting advancement in the study of ancient Egyptian wall paintings.”

The Politics of Class

The class inversion in American politics — Republicans’ struggles with college graduates and Democrats’ struggles with the working class — is a running theme of this newsletter. To help make sense of it, I asked four Times Opinion writers to join me in an exchange this morning. And in the past five years, the party has lost ground with working-class voters of color. Dems need to relearn how to talk to working-class voters — to sound less condescending and scoldy. Too many Democrats radiate an aura of, If only voters understood what was good for them, they would back us.

How to talk about mental health across generations
  + stars: | 2023-05-05 | by ( Julia Chan | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +9 min
We are born to connect, so if we don’t do that, that’s probably the biggest hit on your mental health. Gen Z is moving the needle when it comes to bringing mental health up everywhere, like language, workplace, to their bosses. There’s a little bit more wiggle room to talk about mental health. What you can do in each generation is match mental health resources. We are going to talk about mental health, damn it!” The goal is for you to connect with your family member and understand what makes them tick.

Those are crazy high benefit-cost ratios, considering that a lot of nonprofits would be happy with a ratio of 10 to 1. I’m citing it because Khan has a new plan to make the ratio, whatever it is, even higher. I watched a TED Talk he gave on April 18 about his A.I. “My intellectual selfishness is that I really like making videos,” Khan told me. (Though he’s no longer the only person making videos.)
watch nowNot all software updates offer an array of new features, but when they do it can feel like you are getting a new phone without added cost. Yet, many users still do whatever they can to put off the 30 minutes that a software update can take. Discomfort often stems from the perception that software updates will require users to relearn how to use certain features on their device and threatens their current habits. When 30 days have passed, the system then prompts the user to install the system update. When a major security update comes out, everyone should act relatively fast.

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, beaming with confidence after having proved his doubters wrong and expanded his majority in the midterm elections, vowed without hesitation that the Democratic Party will keep control again in two years. Democrats are defending three seats in the Republican-leaning states of West Virginia, Montana and Ohio. To get there, Schumer promised that Democrats will govern and campaign over the next two years as pragmatists, not ideologues. Schumer pointed to the newly conservative Supreme Court, which rolled back abortion rights and expanded the right to carry guns this year. Instead, Democrats expanded their Senate majority from 50 to 51 seats.
“Nearly every single state in the nation has passed at least one significant gun safety law since Sandy Hook,” concluded the report, first obtained by NBC News. Gun violence has gone from being a political third rail to a kitchen table topic in just ten years. Nearly every American will know a victim of gun violence in their lifetime.”Former Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Ariz., hugs Rep. Lucy McBath, D-Ga., at the Giffords Gun Violence Memorial in front of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., on June 7. Still, gun safety advocates face tall hurdles to achieving other goals, like banning semi-automatic assault-style weapons and large-capacity ammunition. Republicans just won control of the House, almost certainly ending hopes for stricter gun laws for the foreseeable future.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell blamed Trump for the GOP's poor showing in this year's Senate races. He reiterated previous comments on Tuesday about "candidate quality" issues with Senate candidates. "Hopefully in the next cycle, we'll have quality candidates everywhere and a better outcome," he added. McConnell also reiterated previous comments he's made about the party's roster of Senate candidates, including that he "never said there was a red wave." "I do think we had an opportunity to relearn, one more time: you have to have quality candidates to win competitive Senate races," he added.
